Better Hardware:

The MEFI controller is based on production hardware design. Why is this better? The answer is durability and reliability. The only way to achieve this is through testing, testing, and more testing. The MEFI controller has over 15 years of development in it and contains technology like an ultra durable ceramic sub-straight circuit board, technology that is unattainable for any aftermarket controller company. The MEFI is designed to take the following:
  • 500 cycles of temperature swings from -40 F to 230 deg C
  • 500 hours of 185 deg F temperature at 85% humidity
  • 200 hours of Salt fog testing
  • Immersion in the following fluids:
    • Gasoline
    • Salt water
    • Paint Solvents
    • Battery Acid
    • Soap water
    • Power Steering Fluid
    • Transmission Fluid
    • Engine Oil
  • Steam Clean test for 30 minutes
  • 48 hours of storage at 250 deg F
  • Shock testing up to 50g’s
  • Vibration testing at 5 different frequencies for 20 hours
  • Continuous drop testing from 1 meter on a concrete floor
Can any other aftermarket controller do that?

Better Software:

Why is production software good for a performance application? An ECU doesn’t know if it’s controlling a 1000hp engine, or a 10hp engine. ECU software design is all about knowing what’s going on with the engine every millisecond. Knowing what’s going on means knowing the physics of the engine, and knowing how to control it. Delphi has teams of engineers that specialize in specific areas, like a team of doctors in a hospital. This results in software that can control the most exotic engine combinations with ease. Often times, the more difficult task is knowing when something is wrong with the engine, and what to do as result. The MEFI can often times handle multiple failures, and take corrective action to keep the engine running. No race can be won by cars that don’t finish.

Easier to Calibrate:

MSD’s InGenius calibration software makes calibration easy. Often as controllers get complex, they get very difficult to calibrate. MSD engineers have designed InGenius to do most of the work for the user by incorporating calibration automation tools, and easy to use selections with pictures that feel more like a web page than calibration software. It’s designed to make even carburetor users as comfortable as possible.
