definition2 Definition: A fault code is an indicator that is programmed by the manufacturer that indicates a problem exists with the device or system.  There are two types of faults codes that exist.  Active Fault Codes and Logged Fault Codes.  Active Fault Codes indicate that the problem exists with the device or system currently.   Logged Fault Codes indicate that the problem existed in the past, but is not currently a problem.   Logged fault codes may be an indicator that the system has an intermittent problem.

Click the Fault Codes icon clip0072 from the mode bar.   Active fault codes will automatically appear on the screen.
If you are currently in Logged Fault Codes, click flag_activenav Active Fault Codes to quickly make it appear

Click the Fault Codes icon from the mode bar.
Click flag_lognav Logged Fault Codes at the bottom of the page

Click "Communication" on the Menu Bar
Click "Clear Fault Codes" from the drop down menu

 

OR

 

Click the Fault Codes icon from the mode bar.   Active fault codes will automatically appear on the screen.
Click flag_clear Clear Fault Codes to clear the codes

 

 

 

note2 Note:  When a fault becomes active it will automatically be entered as a logged fault code at the same time

 

note2 Note:  Logged fault codes will continue to display until the faults are cleared

 

note2 Note:  Not all fault codes will turn on the Check Engine Soon lamp.  Refer to your service manual to determine which codes turn on the lamp

 

note2 Note:  When no faults codes are present, [no Fault Codes] will appear in the workspace
